Midweek Mango's Mayhem

In spite of the imminent hearing to decide the future of their alcohol license, Mango's has chosen to add to the disturbance suffered by local residents by opening a fortnightly student's night.

Here is one resident's view:

"Last night (Wednesday 29th September) was the opening night for a fortnightly student event at Mangos (http://www.mangos-london.com/) and I was woken at 2:00 with hundreds of drunk students flooding out of the nightclub blowing whistles, shouting, fighting and beeping car horns. This noise persisted until 3:00 meaning that I did not get a good nights sleep. No individual from the nightclub was present on the street. The next morning Artichoke Hill and Pennington Street was covered in alcohol bottles, fast food wrappers and sick."

As we move ever closer to Christmas the chances are that increasing numbers of residents will suffer disturbance caused by rowdy, drunken groups of youths leaving Mango's intent on anti-social behaviour.

As residents, our best possible chance of ending this nuisance will be at the Magistrates Court on 19 January 2010. We need to continue to collect evidence in support of our case. Mango's will no doubt assume that we will eventually get tired. We will not. We will eventually win.

If you suffer any late night noise, whether on Wednesdays or at the weekends, please leave a comment here.

Wednesday 28th October was an appalling example of how little respect Mango's owners show for the local residents and the decision of the council to revoke the license. As if being woken at the weekend wasn't disruptive enough, we now have to face anti-social behaviour, shouting, fighting and traffic on a week night as well. I had just completed my first day at a new job on Wednesday and the last thing I needed was to be kept awake all night, stressing that the lack of sleep would effect my ability the next day. I had to avoid pools of sick on the pavement outside my flat walking to work the next morning.
This weekend (30th and 31st) was no better. I was woken in the early hours on both nights by aggressive shouting and fights in the street. This can't be allowed to continue.

Thanks for your very useful comment. Our only hope is to go in to the trial in January with as much fresh evidence as possible. It is terrible that this process takes so long. It is almost as if the legal process is designed to test the resolve of residents. In the time this has taken some people will have moved away from the area. The main thing is to keep at it. Mango's, quite clearly, have no interest in local residents.

The behaviour of Mangos patrons has continued to deteriorate. On both Friday 6th November and Satuarday 7th November large groups of men were shouting, screaming, swearing and fighting between 1am and 3:30am on the corner of Artichoke Hill. Saturday was particularly bad with a large group of men singing and hollering whilst they loitered on Pennington Street. They walked West towards the The Times office past the Mangos security guard still acting antisocially. I opened my window and the security guard came over to say that they had been shouting for the last 30mins, he had asked them to stop multiple times however there was nothing that he could do to calm them down. This shows just how useless the Security guard that Mangos employs actually is!! The measures in place should be proactive rather than reactive.

Sod Mango's, how about shutting down that cunt (no.12?)in Artichoke Hill who play their music at all hours with the bass reverberating through the whole block??? Sadly I have no access to that side of Artichoke Hill otherwise they would no longer fingers with which to operate their stereo.

Saturday 21st November- a silver Mercedes pulls outside my flat, the Mangos attendant states that they cannot park on the double yellow lines. They do not move and start to drink whilst listening to loud music, the DRIVER even fills up a plastic cup with vodka and downs the drink in one!

Friday 27th and Saturday 28th- Mangos patrons show the usual amount of respect by shouting, swearing, speeding down the street, fighting. Saturday was particularly bad with hundreds of people coming out of the club from 2:45am onwards. One group of around 10 drunk men stayed around the corner of Artichoke Hill sat in cars from 3:00am until 4:30am listening to loud music. No one from Mangos was there to move them on. I was unable to get back to sleep until they left. Another show of how little the owners of Mangos care about the surrounding residential area. HOW CAN THIS KEEP GOING ON!
